Summer 2013 in Indonesia

I went on vacation to Indonesia in end of June 2013. We visited Jakarta, Bali, Gili Trawangan and Pekanbaru. I did not take any pictures while I was in Jakarta since I only made a short stop and spent most of my times visiting doctors and doing some shopping 😛

From Jakarta we went to Bali and spent 2 nights in a hotel near Nusa Dua. The next day we visited turtle islands, sitting at the beach and got some massages. In the afternoon we went to Uluwatu Temple to watch kecak dance and had dinner at Uluwatu. On the way to Uluwatu, we made a stop a Padang Padang beach. It’s the beach where movie eat, pray and love was filmed. In order to go to the beach, we had to walk down through limestone caves.

From Nusa Dua, I bought a fast boat ticket to Gili Trawangan. The fast boat company picked us at the hotel at around 06.30 in the morning and drove us to Padang bay harbour which took  around 2.5 hours. We departed from Padang Bay at 09.30 and arrived in Gili Trawangan at around 10.30 local time.

Gili Trawangan is a largest Lombok’s Gili islands with an area of around 15 km2 (There are 3 Gili Islands in Lombok, i.e., Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Menok). Information about Gili Islands can be found in here: Gili Islands.

Mostly people spending their time here sitting at the beach, riding bicycle, snorkeling and diving.  I did the first three except diving since I cannot swim :-).  I also had bad experience when I did the snorkeling since I got sting from jelly fish and my hand was swollen for an hour 😦

I spent everyday riding bicycle around the islands which took only 45 minutes 🙂

There is no motorcycle or car in this island. The only transportations are cidomo or bicycle.

We went back to Bali by taking fast boat again and stayed in Kuta, Bali. Since I had been to Bali many times before, I decided to spent most of the times near the beach.  I also visited Taman Ayun Temple, Alas Kedaton monkey forest and tanah lot. I spent the remaining days meeting with my friend, sitting at the beach while watching my son learned how to surf and walking around kuta street. We also visited Khrisna (big and cheap Balinese shopping centre) to buy some Balinese stuff to bring home 🙂

I would say June is not the best time to visit Bali since there were  lots of tourist (domestic and international) and it caused traffic jam everywhere.
